Southend YMCA celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2014, managing housing, learning and skills development, health and wellbeing programmes for vulnerable and disadvantaged young people in South East Essex and the Thames Gateway.

In 2007, the organisation’s board of directors decided to appoint an external HR service to ensure that professional support was available to help manage employee recruitment and retention, and to maintain compliance with legislation and best practice.

The team at HR Initiatives were appointed to manage this role and now support a full range of HR generalist services, from redrafting of documents through to complicated processes such as TUPE and redundancy arrangements.

Taking a proactive role and working with team members throughout the organisation, HR Initiatives have helped to implement new recruitment and training procedures, as well as providing advice and support through an organisational restructure.

Andrew Snell, Southend YMCA’s HR Officer comments: “The support we have received from HR Initiatives has helped us to be more proactive. I am in no doubt that Southend YMCA is stronger as a result of our relationship with HRi. Their flexible and adaptable approach has meant that our staff remain supported even through the most difficult changes and this can only support the future aims of the organisation, as well as the personal aspirations of the individuals involved.”

Andrew concludes: “HRi are an exceptional professional organisation who are able to communicate in a clear and concise way. Throughout my career I have worked with a range of consultants but the team at HR Initiatives is second to none”.
